The Cheryl Dress

Introducing the Cheryl Dress: A Gentle, Heartfelt Release

There are moments in sewing that stay with you forever — the first time a garment comes together, the first time you see someone wear something you made, the first time a simple idea becomes something that travels farther than you ever imagined. Over the past year, the Louise Dress has given me more of those moments than I can count.

Designing the Louise Dress and offering it freely was one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever done as an ambassador for Dress A Girl Around the World. I poured myself into it, hoping it might help someone feel confident enough to sew, or inspired enough to give. What I didn’t expect was how deeply it would ripple. I’m now seeing Louise Dresses arrive in the mail from across Canada — each one sewn with love, each one destined to bring dignity and joy to a little girl somewhere in the world. It’s an indescribable feeling, one that fills me with gratitude every single time.

And it’s that feeling — that quiet, powerful tug — that made me realize I would be disappointed if I didn’t create another dress.

Today, I’m so proud to introduce The Cheryl Dress.

A Dress Made With Care, Named With Love

The Cheryl Dress is named after my mom, Cheryl — the woman who taught me to sew, who taught me patience, who taught me that handmade things carry pieces of us. She was a very special lady, and designing a dress in her honour has been emotional in the best possible way. Every line, every curve, every detail carries a little bit of her.

This pattern has taken a great deal of time, energy, and personal resources to bring to life. It is not a free pattern, and I want to speak to that gently and honestly.

As an ambassador, I see how much people give. I see the generosity, the hours, the fabric, the postage, the heart. I try very hard not to ask for myself. But creating a hand‑drawn pattern, drafting multiple sizes, testing, refining, and writing clear directions — it all comes with real costs. Offering the Cheryl Dress as a paid paper pattern allows me to continue designing, continue supporting Dress A Girl, and continue creating resources that help our community sew with confidence and joy.

Thank you for understanding that this pattern represents both love and labour.

About the Pattern

The Cheryl Dress is intentionally simple — the kind of classic, timeless shape that works for Dress A Girl Around the World and for everyday wear. It meets all PDAG criteria and is available in three sizes, making it easy to sew for a wide range of girls.

It’s perfect for back‑to‑school season, and I cannot wait to see it made in corduroy. Truly, I can already picture those soft autumn colours, those sturdy little dresses ready for play, learning, and adventure.

For now, the Cheryl Dress is available only as a paper pattern, hand‑drawn and packaged with written instructions. There’s something special about releasing it this way — it feels personal, almost like sharing a piece of my sketchbook with you.

A New Chapter, Built on Gratitude

The Louise Dress will always hold a special place in my heart, and it will remain free and available for anyone who wants to sew it. It has already done more good than I ever dreamed, and I hope it continues to inspire new sewists and seasoned sewists alike.

The Cheryl Dress is the next step — a continuation of that joy, that purpose, that community. I cannot wait to see what you create with it. I cannot wait to see the fabrics you choose, the colours you love, the little touches that make each dress uniquely yours.

And I cannot wait to see Cheryl Dresses arrive in the mail, ready to travel the world with kindness stitched into every seam.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Thank you for sewing, for giving, for caring, and for lifting girls up one dress at a time.
