Label Placement ~ Project Dress A Girl ~ Sewing for Charity~
Sewing the label on your dress is sometimes the last thing you will do. How many times have you thought I forgot to sew the label on the pocket? Since that was the original plan. I'll put my hand up. Yes, I have done it.
Since I get asked this question quite often. Where should the label be sewn? Answer ~ The front of the dress, in a visible spot.
I have made up a chart , a postcard really, that I send out when labels are purchased. The main purpose of the label is so it can be seen. If your pockets are located on the side of the dress that rules out putting the label there. So, where should the label go?
After sewing many labels on many garments. I personally find it easier to sew the label to the bottom of the dress. I use a 3 inch rule. At least three inches from the side seam and three inches from the bottom. It will then be visible on the front of your dress.
I hope that helps in your label placement decision making. To further understand the 'three rule' I mentioned here is a video link to explain it better. You will have to copy and paste this link into YouTube search. Currently listed as private video. You get to see it here first!

Happy Sewing!
Nicky, that is a very true statement. Normally I need to sew labels on after the garment is already made. If you forget to sew your label on this is the easiest place to sew it.
Why didn’t you just sew the label on first before joining the side seams to the dress? it would have been easier.
