Embracing October: A Season of Change, Gratitude, and Community
by Sharon KnightEmbracing October: A Season of Change, Gratitude, and Community
There’s something special about October. The air turns crisp, the leaves shift into their warm autumn palette, and the world seems to slow just enough for us to notice the beauty in transition. Fall reminds us that change can be gentle, meaningful, and full of purpose — much like the journey we’ve shared together through Project Dress A Girl.
As the season settles in, I find myself reflecting on gratitude, community, and the incredible impact of this year’s project.
Project Dress A Girl: Closing a Beautiful Chapter
Project Dress A Girl has officially come to a close for 2026, though the final dress count is still being tallied. Every day, more parcels arrive from across Canada — from bustling cities, quiet rural towns, sewing groups, quilt guilds, and makers stitching from their kitchen tables. It’s a reminder that generosity doesn’t have a single shape or size. It simply shows up.
Whether you made one dress, one hundred, or contributed through donations, fabric, or encouragement, your participation has been truly extraordinary. You should feel blessed knowing you were part of something that reaches far beyond our borders — something that brings dignity, joy, and hope to children who need it most.
Shari is deeply grateful for your tireless generosity. This project continues to grow because of you — your hands, your hearts, your willingness to give.
A Video That Says More Than Words
Many of you have watched the emotional video with Luba, a powerful reminder of where the dresses go and why this project matters. If you haven’t seen it yet, I encourage you to take a moment.
It’s not just a video — it’s a window into the lives of children living in places where peace is fragile and safety is not guaranteed. It shows the reality behind the stitches, the reason behind the work, and the impact of every single dress made with love.
Watching it reminds us how fortunate we are to live in Canada, where peace is a luxury we often forget to appreciate.
Thanksgiving: A Time to Be Truly Thankful
As Thanksgiving approaches, we are invited to pause and reflect on the blessings around us:
A safe home
A peaceful country
A community that cares deeply
The ability to create
The privilege of giving
The joy of helping others
This season reminds us that gratitude is more than a feeling — it’s an action. And through Project Dress A Girl, you have shown what gratitude looks like when it’s stitched into fabric and shared with the world.
With Heartfelt Thanks
Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for believing in this mission. Thank you for making this project a success, year after year.
As the leaves fall and the season shifts, may your days be cozy, your hearts full, and your spirit lifted by the knowledge that you made a difference — one dress, one stitch, one act of love at a time.
